This unit was about Ancient Greece. Currently we are working on our final assessment in which we write about something in Ancient Greece and something similar in the modern world. Something interesting that I learned was about Athens and Sparta. Its interesting because these city- states were very different and even though they were in one same country they were at war sometimes. –Dhaya
Our unit in world studies was Ancient Greece. Currently we are making our cubes we have choose our three topics and write information about our topics. Also our unit question is "Where do we see Ancient Greece today?"so we also have to answer that question to our topics. The most interesting thing that I learned is Parthenon they are almost the same as Supreme court. –Hojung
MYP 2
We are currently studying the Renaissance, which is about a new way of thinking about science, religion, education, art and many other fields. We recently read passages from Machiavelli’s The Prince, about how a ruler should behave to stay in power. We also learned about “paradigm shifts” like the switch from Ptolemy’s geocentric model of the universe to the heliocentric model of the universe. We thought that Copernicus’s discovery was quite interesting. --MYP 2
MYP 3
We are working on our summative assessment. We have to write an essay about our system. First step was to choose our system. There were many systems: economy system, prison system, health care system, military system, police system and education system etc. My system is education system. --Jimin
Now in world studies we have a unit about government system and we are working on the Soviet systems for example prison systems, education systems and army system. This unit is about governments and how they control their country. During this unit i found interesting the governments and how they rule the country if they rule it by democracy or communism. I found this interesting because there are different countries that can border each other but they have a different system in government. The thing i found hard is the essay that we are working on because it is complicated. --Hania
MYP 5 What is our current unit?
Economics, we learned about demand curves, scarcity, production possibilities curve, home loans, origins of financial crisis and more. --Unna
What are we currently working on?
Economics such as the factors of production, non-price determinants of supply: technology, joint supply, competitive supply, stocks, finance and the securitization food chain that led to the financial crisis. --Minhae
What have you found interesting and why?
Learning about how the stock markets work, and also how the marketing on houses works since it’s something that we’ll probably use later in life so I thought it was interesting cause it is something I’d actually use. –-Emmi
Language B Polish MYP 1 - Phase 1 Phase 1 students have finished their unit "My place". They can describe their closest environment. For their final project they were suppose to make a video "room tour". Please see one of them
Currently students are learning how to tell about their everyday activities using verbs in singular forms. It's quite challenging for them because except of new vocabulary they have to learn verbs' conjugation
Phase 2 Student have finished their unit "Biography". The biggest challenge during it was to learn how to use perfect and imperfect verbs. For final assessment students had to interviewed the Polish teacher (from WIS or ATUT) about her or his life and after write the biography. They done very well thus it was very stressful for them
The current unit is "My future". During it students still had to practice using perfect and imperfect verbs but in future tense. At the beginning student got know some Polish songs. Just as in previous unit the most stressful moment in the unit was meeting with Polish students and interviewed them. Right now students are working on their final presentation "My plans for future"
Phase 3-4 This school year met Polish authors: poets, writers. As a desert students currently are learning how to make a good movie critique. For the final assessment they will watch Polish movie and after write a critique of it.
VISUAL ARTS AND DESIGN TECHNOLOGY
Entire month May went under the preparation to 2012/2013 WIS Art Festival. As the Spring Concert is a final performance for Music as The Art Exhibition is the highlight for Visual Arts and Design Technology. This is moment when not only students get feedback from the others but also teachers evaluate their work. Both Mrs. Thomson and I received many positive opinions. We were more than happy and very proud of our students. I would like to thank to all students, teachers, parents who has helped to organize and lent class to this event. Special thanks to CAS students who helped in preparing stunning gym decoration for The Spring Concert. Mrs. Daniela Tagowska
Student's reflection: The Art Exhibition organised in Wroclaw International School was a fantastic show of students works. There were all different types of artworks from Pre K to Grade 10. The theme of the Art Exhibition was “The Mad Hatter Tea Party”. This name was chosen for it since most of the art works created by children were tea and coffee cups, etc. There were different kinds of artworks; Normal paintings, canvas paintings, 3-D art and many more. I personally think that all of the works were wonderful but the most eye-catching creation in the exhibition was the grape tree which was prepared by the teachers. It was at the entrance and put the people in the art mood the second they came in. Somethings I did when setting this awesome event was helping to set up the works on the stands, finishing our work and carrying stuff to their right places. Also Oliver and I were the masters of the ceremony so we welcomed everyone to the event and opened the event. Something I could’ve done better was my art works themselves. I should’ve picked topics that I could make pretty. I was especially not happy with the two tree canvas paintings because I didn’t plan it out and it came out pretty ugly. Overall I’m happy how the art exhibition looked like when the event was starting. It was a lot different from last year since this year there were 3D-shapes, canvas paintings, powerpoints and many other things that weren’t present. I hope that next year this art exhibition will be at least as wonderful as this year’s.

Simphiwe:
I did like Mathletics because it was an easy way to learn and it helped me be able to see my results right away and I say that we should always use it. The unit we are doing is pretty fun and I think it is a new challenge to me.
Dhaya:
In Math, we finished learning about decimals. Now we are learning about area, perimeter and measurement. I learned how to convert metres, kilometres, centimetres and millimetres to each other. I enjoyed reviewing on how to calculate Perimeters. Because it was fun and easy. I need to work on my converting more.
MYP 2
Chiharu:
Our current unit was percentages. It was sometimes hard for me, but it wasn’t so so so hard for me. I liked this unit, because sometimes easy. The hardest thing was to remember the word that we need for percentage, and convert decimals to fraction.
I liked mathletics, because mathletics have so many programs such as “percentages” and “word problems”. It was so useful, especially “word problems”, because I make some mistake by don’t understand the language.
Yeon Soo:
Percentage is very useful. we are use to make sure what is the small change or When do we necessary the decimal and fraction. Percentage have very many way to get it the answer. so It is attractive.
Robert:
Percentages are easy for me; I may take a lot of time on them, but I find them very simple. I have some trouble on converting money into percentages; for example, the original price for the pencil case is is $5.00 and there is a 17% discount how much does the pencil case cost with the discount? I am not sure how to solve this. But, that is my only problem with percentages.
Hyoung Jun:
This month, we learned about fractions and percentages. Fractions was easy but percentage was a little hard because we had to simplify when we change to fraction. I didn’t really like percentage but I liked when we worked on the mathletics on computer. I think it is a good idea to use mathletics. Use it every year please!

We are now learning about Statistics and Probability, but before we started this unit we also learnt about Graphing Relations which was a short unit. We also used Mathletics which is a program that helps you practice these topics by asking questions. I think that the Mathletics helped me alot with the problems that I had. I think I didn’t have problems during this month.
Oliver:
On math we have worked on graphics relations that i found very hard and i still have to practice more on it. Now we are working on statistics that it also quite hard and i am still working on it. I like working on Mathletics. Overall it was fun and i still need to practice to understand it better.

Minhae:
This unit was a combination of logic, sets and probability. Sets and probability were something I had encountered before, so they weren’t difficult, but logic was tricky to understand. We used mathletics.com to practice these areas, and I liked how it was a different approach to the normal textbook kind of learning.
Emmi:
We have been learning about probabilities in diagrams, we learned about box whiskers, venn diagrams the means and modes and other things like that, its pretty hard since we have to remember a lot of names and different things that the names have and thats something that i'll mix the names up in some ways.

The MYP 3 students continue to read To Kill a Mockingbird. When we came to the trial scene, we reenacted the scene, with students taking on the roles of the different characters. While reading the novel, we are discussing the issue of prejudice, as it appears in the novel and as it appears in real life.
Through the course of the novel, the narrator, a young girl named Scout, learns a lot about courage, prejudice, respect and tolerance amongst other things. The final assignment for the unit will be to create a scrapbook for either Scout or her brother Jem. They will demonstrate their understanding of the novel through diary entries, newspaper stories, quotes and keepsakes.
